79 of Oquawka and formerly of Abingdon, died at 10:00 pm Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at her home in Oquawka. She was born on May 31, 1928 in Blue Earth, MN to Homer and Sarah "Sadie" Miller Morse. She married Merle Eugene "Gene" Simpson on October 5, 1947 in Abingdon. He survives. Viola is also survived by her children, Barbara (and Irvin) Benge of Bushnell, Randy Simpson of Oquawka, Danny (and Patricia) Simpson of Dahinda, IL, Richard (and Sandra) Simpson of Kirkwood and Donald (Vili) Simpson of Port Orchard, WA; her brothers, Melvin Morse of Monroe, WA and Leland Morse of Cambridge; her sisters, Colleen Hillyer of Galesburg, Lucille Tinkham of Abingdon and Anna May Hayes of Havana; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, three sisters and two brothers. Viola had lived in Oquawka since 1979 and prior to that lived in Abingdon. She had worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing in Abingdon and later for the Rowe Manufacturing in Galesburg. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and doing embroidery and going to yard sales. She was of the Christian Faith. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Danny E. Hunt will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Sunday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice.
