85 of 405 E. Monmouth St. Abingdon, died at 12:29 pm Monday, December 27, 2004 at her home. She was born on December 2, 1919 in Biggers, Arkansas to John Lewis and Clara Josephine Carter Anderson. She married Cleo Robert Cox on October 3, 1935 in Pocahontas, AR. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Jeanetta Cox and Beverly Cox, one brother, one sister and one half-brother, a son-in-law Theodore Nelson. Surviving are one son, Bob (and Verna) Cox of Abingdon; two daughters, Judy Simpson of Abingdon and Janet Nelson of Galesburg; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. She had lived in the Abingdon area since 1935. She worked as a unit secretary at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1978. She was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy and held many offices in the church including treasurer, missionary leader, and song leader. She also volunteered at the Care Center of Abingdon for many years. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to her family.
