85, 300 N. Jefferson St. Apt. 202, died at 3:50 am Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Care Center of Abingdon. He was born on August 7, 1921 in Abingdon to Willard E. (Red) and Myrtle C. Landon Malone. He married Alberta Holsinger on August 30, 1941 in Hannibal, MO. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Eugenia (Jeanie)Griese of Abingdon, Pat (and Peter) Potenziani of Abingdon and Betty (and Robert) Rosenberry of RR Abingdon; three brothers, Robert (and Jean Ann) Malone of RR Gilson, Dale (and Janet) Malone of RR London Mills and Donald Malone of Abingdon; one sister, Joyce (and Stan) Simms of Galesburg; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Bradley Ritchey, three brothers, Elbea, Kenneth and Richard Malone, two sisters, Mary Erwin and Dollie Brock. He had lived in Abingdon since 1987 and prior to that had lived in Cameron for over thirty years where he operated the Sunoco Oil Company for 13 years, retiring in 1981. He had also worked at the Abingdon Pottery. He served in the US Army Signal Corps during WW II. He was a member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon. He was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church and a past member of the Cameron Christian Church. He was a past member of the Cameron Fire Department and later served as President of the Board of Trustees for the Warren Central Fire Protection District. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, February 2, 2007 at the Abingdon Christian Church. Rev. Bob Malone, his nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg where military rites will be accorded by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Memorials may be made to Abingdon Christian Church, Cameron Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
