William G. Mathias

Mr. William G. Mathias, 86, of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 12:52 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home.

William was born November 4, 1939, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Joseph and Alberta (Stocker) Mathias. He married Elsie Legate, and they shared 40 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on November 16, 2023.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra Mathias of Lakeland, Florida; granddaughter, Chrystal (Jayme) Montroy, of Macomb, Illinois and his grandson, Nathan (Allison) O’Bear of Claxton, Georgia; and his great grandchildren, Autumn and Brendon Campbell and Jaiden and Rayn O’Bear and two step great grandchildren Campbell and Willow Rush. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David Mathias, in December of 2018.

William attended Galesburg schools and later earned an associate’s degree. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed yard work and spending time outdoors. William was often seen with his constant companion, his dog Blondie, faithfully by his side.
