Mrs. Shirley I. Sholl, 92, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:00 am, Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Roseville, Illinois.

She was born March 17, 1925 in Dahinda, Illinois the daughter of Curtis A. and Gracie Peterson Powell. She first married Carl Thurman and later married Elmer D. Sholl on June 17, 1978 in Galesburg, Illinois He preceded her in death on December 9, 2004.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Forrest (Pamela Sand) Thurman and Calvin (Margo) Sholl both of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Bruecks, Aaron (Jodi) Thurman, Cassie (Kris) Parrish, Jeff (Jen) Sholl, Pam Sholl Stout and Marlo (Brad) Abernathy and nine great grandchildren, Jessica Cummings, Zach and Bryce Abernathy, Tori Childers, Garrett, Shelby and Lavinia Bruecks and Molli and Andrew Thurman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Elmer, her daughter, Cynthia Young on December 23, 2015, one brother, Forrest Powell, her sister, Caroline Fitchpatrick and one great granddaughter, Marie Martinez on February 6, 2001.

She worked in Quality Control for Maytag Corporation for 36 years, retiring in 1987. She graduated from Williamsfield High school in 1943. She was of the Christian Faith. Shirley was a member of the Royal Neighbors #7639 and the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Shirley loved spending time at the river and was a member of the Keithsburg Boat Club. She was an avid Chicago Cub and Bear fan. Shirley’s favorite holiday was Christmas.

Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 am Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will follow at East Linwood Cemetery. Mr. Scott Cramer will officiate.
