Mrs. Emma Lou Whitfield, Abingdon Chapel

98 of Abingdon, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at her home.

She was born August 17, 1918 in St. Augustine, Illinois, the daughter of Dean C. and Della G. Roe Cutler.

Emma Lou is survived by her sons, Robert (Cathy) Whitfield of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, John (Fatima) Whitfield of Nicaragua and Dennis (Rosie Ayers) Whitfield of Eugene, Oregon; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gale Cutler in infancy, and Nolan Cutler.

Emma Lou lived most of her life in Abingdon.  She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1936.  She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church, the Grandmothers Club and the Garden Club.  She also volunteered for the American Red Cross.

Some of Emma Lou’s fondest memories were working at the Dimock Gould Lumber Company in Moline.

Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate her life, her family will receive relatives and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.  Her memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Abingdon Christian Church with Rev. Darryl McDaniel officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Christian Church.
