Larry “Rocky” Johnson, 58 of Abingdon, passed away at 12:54 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  

He was born June 2, 1959 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, the son of Herbert A. and Rosemary Smith Johnson.  He married Nancy Underwood and they later divorced.  He then married Roxanne Pierson on March 28, 1982 in Abingdon. 

Rocky is survived by his wife, Roxanne; his mother, Rosemary Johnson of Galesburg; one son, Brandon (Kendra) Johnson of Avon; three daughters, Summer (Joshua) Griffith of Abingdon, Shannon (Robb) Sloan of Abingdon and Sunshine (Ryan Thomas) of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Scott (Amy Streibich) Johnson of Peoria; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Eudaley of Abingdon; and his beloved dogs Harry and Harley.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He grew up in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1978.  He has lived in Abingdon the past 35 years.  He was a car salesman and finance manager for Cavanaugh Motors in Monmouth and at Yemm Chevrolet in Galesburg. He was most recently employed as a Retail Account Manager for Cobalt Digital Marketing in Hoffman Estates, but was medically retired in September of 2016.  Rocky attended Open Bible Churches and had served as the Youth Pastor at the Prairie City Open Bible Church.  Most recently, he has attended Northwoods in Galesburg.  He enjoyed camping, tinkering, traveling and being a part of anything his grandkids were doing.

Cremation will be accorded.  Celebration of life service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 207 N. Washington St. in Abingdon.  Pastor Jeremiah Barker and Pastor Andrew Wingo will officiate.  Following the service, a time of gathering with the family will be in the church fellowship area.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements for cremation and announcements.
